First and foremost, if you can go without renting a vehicle, by all means, do so! If you take just a few minutes to research, it's not uncommon to find multiple modes of public transportation. In Puerto Rico there are publicos, taxis, buses, trains, and bicycle rentals. On the smaller adjacent islands, like Vieques and Culebra, you can even rent golf carts and scooters! All of these modes of transportation, if not used excessively, would produce significantly less carbon emissions than renting a vehicle (especially if that vehicle isn't electric). Not only that, but these travel options also promote physical activity as well as more interaction with the local environment and culture. Unlike some places abroad, the Puerto Rican locals are usually very kind and willing to help. It certainly never hurts to ask! |
THE HUMAN FOOTPRINT.
In the grand scheme of things, humans live relatively short lives. According to Google, the human lifespan, on average, is 79 years. When compared to that of the 4.543 billion-year-old planet that we inhabit, our lives seems less than miniscule. Whats more, when compared to the entire universe, which is estimated to be approximately 13.773 billion years old, we appear nigh irrelevant.
